All Vermont Innovation Summer positions are paid. Some positions are funded through a grant from Middlebury College, while other positions may be paid directly through your employer (specific amount specified in Handshake posting).

Middlebury has partnered with Champlain College to provide access to affordable, fee-based dormitory housing in Burlington. Champlain College dorms are within walking distance to downtown Burlington’s many shops and restaurants. Housing will only be available from June 12 to August 4, the length of all Vermont Innovation Summer internships. The total housing cost is $1,336 which will be deducted from the VIS funding award amount, and food is not included.

Members of the VIS cohort will have guaranteed access to this housing, but must accept before April 9. More information will become available in March upon receiving an offer of employment, as some positions may cover the cost of housing in addition to your payment or grant. Students are welcome to find housing on their own in Burlington or live on Middlebury’s campus.

The dormitory housing at Champlain College will be located within Summit Hall. The residential space consists of single and double occupancy rooms and kitchens on each floor. Beyond the walkability, Summit will be filled with other Middlebury students that are interning through VIS, as well as college-aged interns from other institutions.

During your summer experience, you will have regular contact with staff from the Innovation Hub, who will serve as point people for questions related to your summer experience outside of your internship responsibilities. Over the course of the summer, you will participate in a few required activities with the entire Vermont Innovation Summer cohort, such as a launch event, an in-person mid-summer reflection dinner, a send-off check in, and a post-summer celebration. These often come with free food! You may also be invited to participate in optional activities, such as coffee and office hours with Innovation Hub staff, a makerspace tool training, networking opportunities, or Burlington community events.
